Terms of Service
Version notice. This dated update adds the initial mobile-release disclosures below and preserves the existing website provisions. Mobile-specific eligibility, storage, billing, and cleanup provisions are identified separately. Read the previously published version v1.0-2026-09.
These terms are an agreement between you and Classy AI ("we", "us") governing your use of the Socrates tutoring service — our website at stayclassy.ai and the application at socrates.stayclassy.ai. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and is part of these terms.
1. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. The service is designed for higher education and is not offered to children under 13.
- You must provide accurate account information and keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- Educator accounts must be created only by people who genuinely teach or support the courses they manage.
2. Acceptable use and academic integrity
Socrates is built to strengthen your understanding, not to complete your work for you. You agree to:
- Follow your institution's academic-integrity policies. You are responsible for how you use the service in your coursework, and for confirming that your instructor or institution permits it where such permission is required.
- Not attempt to circumvent the service's usage limits, access controls, or the way it is designed to guide rather than complete your work.
- Upload only material you have the right to use, and no unlawful, malicious, or infringing content.
- Not misuse the service — including probing for vulnerabilities, scraping other users' data, or misrepresenting your role.
3. Subscriptions, trials, and refunds
- The Student plan is $9 per month. Accounts start with a 30-day free trial without a payment method; choosing a paid subscription starts billing immediately, even if trial time remains.
- Paid subscriptions renew monthly until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal linked in Settings; cancelling stops future renewals.
- Fees already paid are non-refundable except where required by law or where we decide a refund is warranted.
- The service applies fair-use limits — currently up to 1,000 tutor messages and 25 completed quizzes per day — which we may adjust with notice.
4. Institution-sponsored access
Classroom and institutional plans are sales-assisted and governed by a separate written agreement with the institution. Where that agreement conflicts with these terms, it controls for that deployment. If your access is sponsored by an institution, the institution decides who is enrolled and for how long, access ends when its arrangement ends, and the institution can ask us to export or delete the records created under it.
5. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you upload and the messages you write. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, process, transmit, and display that content as needed to provide, maintain, secure, and support the service for you, and to meet our legal obligations — including sending it to the service providers described in our Privacy Policy so they can perform those functions on our behalf. The license lasts as long as we hold the content and ends when it is deleted.
Classy AI does not sell your content, use it to train AI models, or use it to develop other products. Provider-side training is addressed in section 6 of the Privacy Policy.
6. Our service and intellectual property
The service, including its software, design, and branding, belongs to Classy AI and its licensors. These terms do not grant you any rights in it beyond the access needed to use the service as intended.
7. AI output
Socrates is an AI tutor. Its responses are educational guidance generated by a machine-learning system: they can be incomplete, imprecise, or wrong, including when they cite your course material. They are not professional, legal, medical, or financial advice. Verify important material against your course sources and your instructor.
8. Availability and changes to the service
We provide online access without scheduled tutoring hours, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation and offer no service-level agreement. The service may be briefly unavailable, for example during deployments or provider outages. We may add, change, or withdraw features as the service evolves; where a change removes something you rely on, we will give notice where practical.
9. Suspension, termination, export, and deletion
You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from Settings, and you can export your chat history and learning data from Settings before you do. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, create risk for other users, or must be terminated by law. Where practical, we will notify you and give you the chance to export your data first. What deletion covers, and what it does not, is described in our Privacy Policy.
10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Classy AI's total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service evolves. We post changes here and update the version and date above. We do not currently send individual notices of changes, so this page is the place to check. Continued use after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

13. Initial mobile release — October 10, 2026
These Terms also govern the Classy AI iOS and Android applications operated by Classy AI, Inc. Initial mobile availability is limited to the United States and adults aged 18 or older. You must truthfully affirm eligibility before mobile study access. The earlier general website eligibility statement does not permit use of the initial mobile applications by anyone under 18.
The mobile applications use existing account or institution-provided access. They do not offer purchases or direct users to external purchasing. Existing website subscriptions remain managed through the website and Stripe. The billing-portal reference in section 3 applies to website Settings, not the mobile applications. Existing website pricing, subscription terms, and institutional agreements are otherwise unchanged. This description does not assert Apple or Google approval of the billing model.
You can manage your account and request deletion in mobile Account settings. Deletion invalidates account access, while original-file removal and payment-provider cleanup may remain pending and are retried. Necessary provider identifiers are removed after successful cleanup; persistent failures are escalated. The Privacy Policy's mobile-release disclosure explains the rollout distinction and the actual retention exceptions. This update establishes no new fixed retention deadline.
The mobile-specific provisions take effect for the initial mobile release when it becomes available. This policy publication does not activate an application or backend rollout. All other existing Terms remain in effect; historical account acceptances are not rewritten.
